News
August 2024
There are always requests for spare parts for Schurr keys. Paddles and hoods are usually in demand. Stefan Bergsiek makes such spare parts and you can buy them directly from him. bergsiek@gmx.de
February 2022
A new price list from around 1990 was sent to me by Achim, DL1GWO – thank you very much! The Big Champion was more expensive in this early price list than a Profi wabbler. Along with the price list came a Wabbler Standard with a hood – so far I’ve only had it in my collection without a hood.
October 2021
The “Funkamateur” published an article I wrote about the Morse keys made by Gerhard Schurr. The occasion is the 10th anniversary of his death in October of this year.
If you are interested in my article, you should definitely get the “Funkamateur” 10/2021. I have tried to give as broad an overview as possible of the original Schurr keys. Not everything that I wanted to present has found space on 2 complete pages, but a lot can also be found here on my website. The rights to the article have of course passed to the magazine, so I cannot publish it here.
This year has been very exhausting for me so far and I am glad that I have at least achieved this goal (mentioned below January 2021).
Incidentally, during Gerhard Schurr’s lifetime there was never a detailed presentation of Schurr morse keys in the amateur radio magazines CQ-DL (club magazine) or Funkamateur. I searched the tables of contents of these magazines for several decades – unfortunately without success. So it was about time.
January 1 – 2021
I wish all visitors to my website a healthy and successful year 2021 !
For me personally, the past year was very exhausting and in a certain way sobering, disappointing and depressing. So I was all the more pleased about the positive feedback on my Schurr collection and the Morse keys and information offered to me. Thank you again for that and please: keep it up! Maybe it will be a success again to publish new information here. I have something special in mind this year in connection with the Schurr keys and I hope I will succeed.
December 2020
Many thanks to Christian, DJ4WT, who gave me the opportunity to publish further price lists and also the QSL card from Gerhard Schurr, DH2SAA !
It’s fun that way and Christian wasn’t the only one who contacted me. Soon I am looking forward to get 2 new keys in my collection, which are variants of existing keys, but different again. Typical Schurr. The pictures will follow soon.

New Documents
Care instructions for the Profi 2 / Profi 98 are now available in English as well. A big thank you to Jim, NA7SN, who helped with a revised version of the translation !
I’ve also scanned the care instructions for the Profi 3. There will be an English version available soon as well.
Uli Scheunemann
Unfortunately there is also bad news. I haven’t visited the website of Uli Scheunemann for a while, but now I found the (already suspected) official news of Uli there:
“I have had to dissolve the company for health reasons. My search for a successor has been unsuccessful so far”.
That is a great pity. Anyone who knew Uli, or at least met him at the Ham Radio, already knew that he hadn’t been feeling too well lately. As long as nobody can be found, we will unfortunately have one less key manufacturer in DL. Once again. Maybe I overestimate the importance of Morse keys in FT8 times in general, but quality and handmade Made in Germany are still something special for me, which should be continued and preserved if possible. There is enough cheap scrap – or ?
July 2020
Sometimes little miracles happen. I got a phone call from a nice OM today. As a result, there is first of all new information about the Profi 98 !
Only 50 of these keys were built in 1998. This ensures that the Profi 1 was built from 1988 to 1998, the Profi 98 exactly 50 times in 1998 and from 1998 the Profi 2.
This information is recorded in a certificate (see documents) that I did not know before. I had not received this certificate when I bought my used Profi 98.
The second news is the absolute hammer – I save that for the next update, for that I have to invest some work for the presentation.
May 2020
The whole Corona crap did not lead to more spare time for me, but rather to less. Therefore, there is only little time available for an update of the website. Original Schurr keys are becoming increasingly rare and although no flea markets have taken place recently, the offer online is practically zero (at least in Germany). Models by Gerhard Schurr that were unknown to me have not appeared. I am currently trying to “optimize” my collection and e.g. to add missing hoods. There will soon be another photo session to document model variants that have not yet been shown (subtle differences in the keys).
Thank you for the positive feedback about my Schurr Collection, which reaches me from time to time ! Additionally, there were questions as to whether one or the other Schurr key was made by a successor or is originally by Gerhard Schurr. Unfortunately, I have to say here: It will often not be possible to determine this 100%, as several potential successors have made Schurr keys with his logo over the years.
Probably record-breaking prices for Schurr Keys at EBAY in the US
In the United States, pretty high prices for SCHURR keys have been paid recently:
Schurr ‘Portable Wabbler’ in cardboard box : 381 USD / 336,14 EUR
Schurr ‘Profi 2’ in cardboard box : 353 USD / 311,44 EUR
Schurr ‘Small Hand Key’ (all brass) : 345 USD / 304,88 EUR
If someone bought from Europe he has to pay additionally 70 USD shipment costs for the first 2 keys plus tax (which is in Germany e.g. 19%) so in total about 500 USD / 440 EUR would be the costs for European bidders.
But in Germany Schurr keys are also selling well, the cheapest model (hand key on a wooden base) was sold for 107,65 EUR at EBAY recently. This is almost twice the original price of this key.
Recently I’ve got the all-brass version of the ‘Wabbler Standard’ from DK7PE – thanks Rudi ! You can see the pictures of this iambic keyer here.
