Wabbler ‘Standard’

The first Wabbler by Gerhard Schurr. A rather unconventional, T-shaped base. There were apparently variants of brass and steel (the brass version is heavier !). Also, the front and rear open acrylic glass cover was already available in this Wabbler. For the steel bases, a special matt varnish was applied. Some pedestals carry the lettering ‘Schurr’ at the front. However, the key in my collection has no lettering and the ‘Schurr Morsetasten’ engraving is not present on the triangular cover plate yet.

Many features of the ‘Profi’ keys can already be found here, i.a. the adjustment of the spring force via a common adjusting screw for the left and right paddle and the tip bearing of the paddle arms. The paddles themselves are still screwed from the inside of the paddle arms with additional nuts in my copy. From which side the paddles are bolted to the lever arms, is essential with the squeeze keys. Bolting from the outside ALWAYS leads to a very large distance between the paddles and thus to a large distance between thumb and forefinger. Screwing from the inside is practically only possible if the paddles themselves have internal threads. This excludes, among other things, the use of wooden paddles.
Schurr has focused on screwing from the inner side of the paddle arms right from the very beginning.
