Squeeze me – the greatest keys (German article by DK8OK)

In the “Amateur Radio Yearbook 1993” there is one of the few articles I know that also deals with Schurr keys. The editor is OM Nils Schiffhauer, DK8OK. He kindly allowed me to publish the following excerpt from the article “Squeeze me – the greatest keys” here.

As I said, it is only a part of the article in which – among other things – Vibroplex, Bencher and other Morse keys are briefly presented in their essential properties.

Comment from my side:

The comparison of a SCHURR key with a Vibroplex is in my opinion a bit daring. From my point of view, Vibroplex is mass-produced goods with low precision, which are prettified with paint and chrome and are sold at overpriced new prices. The gigantic pitch of the American thread alone is a challenge for precise adjustment of the contact distances. This really has nothing to do with the precision parts of a SCHURR key that are partially turned / milled / ground in the 1/100 mm range. But the Vibroplex keys have been something of a tradition for 100 years and apparently many people think they’re great.
